News - AGM 2011

The Annual General meeting was held on 3rd July 2011 at the Health Education Beurau, The Saram Place, Colombo. A new council of management was selected. A scientific session was held prior to the AGM and two valuable lectures were conducted. Mr . Nelson Piyaratne, Therapy Radiographer from Weastmead Hospital, Sydney Australia delivered a lecture on the increasing use of dianostic images on radiotherapy planning. Dr. ms. Kamalani Wanigasinghe deliverede a lecture on life styles and stress management in coping up with the changing technology.

SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE
SOCIETY OF RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGISTS SRI  LANKA

Dear Colleagues,
The  Annual  General Meeting of the S.R.T.S.L will be held on 03rd July  2011 at the Health Education Bureau ,Kynsey  Road ,Colombo 10. The Guest lecturers at the sessions will be Mr  Nelson  Piyaratne, Chief Radiation Therapist ,Woolongong Public Hospital Australia . and  Dr Kamalani Wanigasinghe from the medical faculty Colombo They will deliver lectures on topics currently very relevant to the profession.
The Scientific Sessions will commence at  09.00 am with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp at the end of which the AGM follows.
S R T S L expects the participation of all its members in the sessions , AGM and  take  interest in its endeavours  for the benefit of the Radiographers and we emphasize, that the participation of  all senior Radiographers both from public and private sectors is  important.
We kindly request the senior Radiographers and the Radiographers in charge to inform The Radiographers who have been  newly recruited  to the service to become members of the professional organization of the Radiographers The application form for membership is  attached  with this news letter sent to radiographers  in charge. and also can be downloaded from S.R.T.S.L.  website http://srtsl.weebly.com .
It has been discussed to conduct a course in C.T. in the future for the benefit of the members by the Society. This will be further discussed at the AGM for your views and finalization.
The proposals to be taken up at the  A G M can be forwarded to the Secretary in writing by the members on or before 30th June 2011
The college of Radiologists will hold its seminars from 23 rd July for three consecutive days. They wish to have a day for the Radiographers too. Invitations have been made by the College of Radiologists to the Radiographers through SRTSL. Those who wish to participate in this  seminar  please take notice of this and may communicate with S R T S L. for further information. The Radiographers will have to buy tickets for  participation. The brocheur  of the  seminar is attached herewith. Radiographers interested please contact  Mr V G Wimalasena,  President ,SRTSL  0112676928 / 011 2691111 ext 356  or Secretary, SRTSL O71 8373909.This invitation extended by the College of Radiologists we consider is important to promote a better understanding for future and foster goodwill, partnership, knowledge and ensuring  precise diagnostic and curative efforts  to the patient.

DEAR FRIENDS,

It is a great pleasure to address you in the hope of  gaining your attention for a worthy cause which may  be of immense benefit to you personally and for the entire  community of Radiological Technologists in Sri Lanka.

The Society had its AGM on26th of June  2007 with the scientific session and the AGM together.  It was a pathetic show  by our own members  that the attendance was  a very menial number  and one wonders  what will be the future of the future generation of Radiological Technologists.

My fervent appeal to our young Technologists is, for the benefit of your own self, come forward to spent a bit of  your energy and time for the society. Come join us. Any technologist who is not a member of the society please fill up an application and send it to the secretary, society of Radiological Technologists Sri Lanka, School Of Radiography, NHSL , Colombo.

The  national Council of the Society met immediately after the AGM and  considered drawing up an itinerary for the year ahead. There were certain amendments to the constitution  and

a)      The number of council members were increased to 17 to accommodate more capable members from  public and private sector.

b)      In the absence of academic members from school  to refill the vacuum, members  from general body were to be elected.

c)      The council consisted of 17 members and at present following members were  elected as office bearers at the first  sitting of the council.

d)      In future  some more changes may needed when activities of the  society expands its academic activity.

OFFICE BEARERS:

Mr. V.G.Wimalasena is elected as president and Mr.M.I.M.Jabir as Secretary, Mr. V.G .Jayaratne as the Treasurer and Mrs jayantha mapatune as the Editor in chief.

Following office bearers were elected:

Mr. M.A.R.S.Fernando -  Asst.Secretyary

Mr.H.K.Dharmasiri. -  Vice president(Therapy)

Mr. Deepal Liyanarachchi. -  Vice president.

Editorial board:     -        Mr.Hiran senanayake

                                    Mr. Jawana Dissanayake

                                    Mr. Ilangkoon   (SJGH)

Among the issues under consideration is

1.       Initiating a  Diploma In CT scan training program with immediate effect . around 25 to 40 trainees will be accommodated. It is a fee levying program.

2.       Re starting the communication with the ISRRT and possible other societies world wide.

3.       Printing the Society Magazine “The radiographer” before November this year.

4.       Having a channel of communication with the members.

5.       Creating a network of branches so that a senior person in a particular area will communicate with the mother society about the members in his area.

6.       Commemorating the RADIOGRAPHY DAY on November 8th  which is  carried out world wide.

7.       Action will  be initiated to make the society an incorporated body by  a parliament act.

Applications for the CT scan course and  the radiography day procedures will be sent to all members and members willing to participate in the events have to apply  and sent the consent in writing. Invitations will be sent to only for the applicants.

All the members and even the non members are invited to write articles on subjects related to  Radiography, Radiotherapy and any other related  medical subjects. The articles should reach the Editor, The Radiographer” School of radiography, NHSL Colombo. The articles should be sent before 15th of September 2011.

Also the members are kindly requested to  find some advertising materials for the  magazine  to cover the cost.

As in the past  all the Radiographers in the Govt. sector are automatically become  members  and  an annual subscription of Rs. 200.00 is deducted from their pay. Govt. sector members please  fill the forms and send them to the above mentioned address as early as possible. This is according to a resolution passed in the past.

Private sector members too can subscribe  Rs.200.00 to the treasurer while attending seminars or sessions.

Special  levies  may be imposed when  and as it necessitates.

Dear friends

Other than our  day to day affairs please be prepared to sacrifice a few minutes  from your schedule  for the upliftment  of  our  profession  which is our life line.

Long live the Society of Radiological Technologists –Sri Lanka.
